COVID19 has created a lot of problems for each and everyone in this world. It has affected every industry and every person. It has forced everyone to be in a lockdown. As a consequence of the lockdown, global air pollution levels have gone down. But how is each city performing? We analyzed our data for the past month for few important cities across the world and came up with this report.

Bengaluru

The pollution levels are constantly dipping in Bengaluru. As seen from the above graph, since the lockdown, PM 2.5 levels have dipped below 30. PM 2.5 daily average was as high as 67 in the first week of March. The levels dipped below 20 on April 7th.

Delhi

Delhi is one of the most polluted cities in the world. We have see PM 2.5 levels as high as 800 in Delhi. However due to lockdown, Delhi is breathing better air. PM 2.5 level was over 100 starting of this month. It has reduced slowly since then. Delhi saw a sharp increase in PM 2.5 level at the end of March but has reduced since the start of April. PM 2.5 level dipped below 40 on 8th April.

Berlin

The pollution levels have lowered drastically in Berlin. Due to COVID19 and lockdown, PM 10 levels have dipped from already good levels of 15 to 20 to near zero levels. The highest daily average of PM 10 levels was around 23 and the lowest daily average was around 1.

London

Although pollution levels have varied a lot in London, it has been on the lower side. The highest PM 2.5 level London saw was on the last week of March where it was around 15. The PM 2.5 level dipped below 4 on 6th of March and 30th of March.

Paris

Paris started the month of March with comparatively lower level of PM 10. It gradually increased as the month progressed and was at its highest in the last week of March. It lowered at the end of the month and has stayed low in April so far.

New York

New York is suffering a bad outbreak of COVID19. However, PM 2.5 has dipped gradually over the course of the month. The city saw its peak PM 2.5 levels at the start of March with the level being around 11. It has dipped to around 2.5 at the start of April. However, it slightly rose on April 7th and continued to rise on 8th.

San Francisco

Similar to New York, PM 2.5 has dipped gradually over the course of the month. The city saw its peak PM 2.5 levels on March 14 with the level being around 11. It dipped below 2 at the start of April. However, like New York, it slightly rose on April 6th and continued to rise on 7th and 8th.

Melbourne

The month of March had an increasing trend in PM 2.5 levels in Melbourne. The pollution was at its highest on April 1st when the PM 2.5 level reached 12. The pollution has dipped from the start of April.

Jakarta

The city of Jakarta has seen a decrease in pollution since the last week of March. PM 10 level was at its highest on the second week of March with the level being around 35. Pollution has declined since 22nd of March.

Beijing

China has been under lockdown before any other country and is slowly moving out of lockdown. This is also reflected in the pollution levels of China’s capital Beijing where the pollution has gradually increased from start of March. PM 10 level was at its lowest at the start of March where it was under 20. It gradually increased and saw its peak on 3rd of April where it reached 140. It has dipped since then but the pollution level is still high.

Shanghai

Unlike Beijing, Shanghai has had pretty much the same trend when it comes to pollution levels. PM 2.5 level was at its lowest at the start of March where it was below 20. It was at its highest during the second week of March where the PM 2.5 level reached 78. The pollution level has been similar since then.
